Daylight saving time is a rebellion for stealing time against Yahweh’s timely order in the holy scripture
Daylight Saving Time: Why It’s Wrong from the Bible’s Lens
Hello, friends. Welcome back to Spiritual Podcast, your podcast for authentic Bible truths. I’m Elder Dan, your host. Today, we’re talking about something that just happened to most of us—or if you’re listening to this later in the year, something you’re about to experience again. I’m talking about that strange ritual we all participate in twice a year where we collectively agree to pretend that time is something we can just… manipulate.
Yeah, I’m talking about Daylight Saving Time.
Now, before you think this is just going to be another rant about losing an hour of sleep or showing up to church confused, stick with me. Because what we’re really going to explore today is something much deeper: what does it mean when humanity decides to tamper with something Yahweh, the Father, and Elohim in heaven Himself established?

When Did We Decide We Could Change Time?
Let’s start with a simple question: who gave humanity the authority to change time?
I mean, think about it. We’re talking about time itself—one of the fundamental structures of creation. And yet, twice a year, governments issue decrees, and we all dutifully change our clocks. We spring forward in March, we fall back in November, and we act like this is totally normal.
But here’s the thing: it’s not normal. It’s actually pretty bizarre when you step back and look at it.
Daylight Saving Time was first implemented widely during World War I. The idea was to conserve energy by making better use of daylight. Germany started it in 1916, and other countries quickly followed. After the war, most places abandoned it, but then it came back during World War II. And somehow, what was supposed to be a temporary wartime measure became a permanent fixture in many parts of the world.
We’ve been doing this for over a century now, and most people don’t even question it anymore. It’s just what we do. But should we?
Yahweh’s Design for Time
Let’s go back to the beginning—literally. Genesis chapter 1:14-18 shows us Yahweh’s original design for time:
“And Elohim said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And Yahweh made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: He made the stars also. And Yahweh set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and Yahweh saw that it was good.”
Read and listen to that carefully. Yes, Almighty Yahweh created the sun and the moon to be our timekeepers. He set them in motion to mark days, seasons, and years. This wasn’t arbitrary—it was intentional design. The rising and setting of the sun defines the day. The cycle of the moon marks the months. The earth’s journey around the sun gives us our years.
Yahweh looked at this system and called it good. Not “good enough for now” or “good until humans think of something better.” He called it good. Complete. Perfect!
The Illusion of Saving Daylight
Here’s what’s almost comical about Daylight Saving Time: you can’t actually save daylight. It’s impossible. The amount of daylight in a day is determined by the earth’s position relative to the sun. No legislative act, no presidential decree, no parliamentary vote can change that astronomical reality.
When we “spring forward,” we’re not creating more daylight. We’re just relabeling time. We’re playing a societal game of pretend where we all agree that what used to be 7:00 AM is now 8:00 AM. But the sun doesn’t care about our clocks. It rises when it rises and sets when it sets, according to the laws of physics that Yahweh put in place.
Psalm chapter 74:16-17 declares: “The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun. Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.”
The day belongs to Yahweh. The night belongs to Yahweh. He prepared the light. He set the boundaries. He made the seasons. And implicit in this truth is the reality that these things are not ours to manipulate!
The Disruption of Natural Order
You know what’s interesting? Scientists have actually studied the effects of Daylight Saving Time, and the results aren’t pretty. There are spikes in heart attacks in the days following the spring time change. Car accidents increase. Workplace injuries go up. Productivity drops. People’s sleep patterns get disrupted.
Why? Because we’re fighting against our natural circadian rhythms—the internal biological clocks that Yahweh designed into our bodies.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us: “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
Yahweh built rhythm into creation. He designed natural cycles. And when we mess with those cycles, there are consequences. Our bodies know something is wrong, even if our minds try to rationalize it.
I’m not saying that everyone who participates in Daylight Saving Time is consciously rebelling against Elohim—most people just go along with it because that’s what everyone does. But at a societal level, this practice represents humanity’s desire to control things that should remain under Yahweh’s sovereignty!
The Pride Problem
Let’s talk about what’s really at the heart of this issue: pride!
When we decide to change time, we’re essentially saying, “Yahweh’s design is fine, but we can improve it. His system works, but ours works better. His ways are good, but our ways are more efficient.”
That’s the same attitude that got humanity in trouble from the very beginning. In the Garden of Eden, the serpent tempted Eve by suggesting that Yahweh was withholding something good from them. He implied that they could be like Elohim, knowing good and evil, making their own decisions about what’s right and wrong.
And that’s what we do every time we presume to override Yahweh’s natural order. We’re declaring our independence from His design. We’re asserting our right to modify creation according to our preferences.
Proverbs 16:18 warns us: “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Isaiah 5:21 adds: “Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!”
The assumption that we know better than Yahweh—that we can tinker with His creation and improve it—is the very definition of pride. And Scripture makes it clear that Yahweh opposes the proud!
The Pattern of Control
Daylight Saving Time is part of a larger pattern. Throughout history, humans have tried to control and reshape things that Yahweh established. We’ve modified plants and animals through genetic engineering. We’ve dammed rivers and redirected waterways. We’ve attempted to control the weather. We’ve even split the atom.
Some technological advances have genuine benefits, sure. But there’s a line between stewarding creation and trying to supplant the Creator. And I would argue that changing time itself crosses that line.
Daniel chapter 7 verse 25 speaks prophetically of a power that would “think to change times and laws.” While this prophecy has specific applications, it also reveals a broader spiritual principle: the attempt to change what Yahweh has established is a mark of opposition to His authority.
When we manipulate time, we’re not just making a practical adjustment for convenience. We’re participating in a symbolic act of rebellion, whether we realize it or not!
The Confusion Factor
Have you ever noticed how disorienting time changes are? For a few days after we spring forward or fall back, people are showing up early or late to things. Some devices update automatically, others don’t. Different countries and even different states handle it differently. Some places don’t observe it at all.
It creates confusion. And guess what? Yahweh is not the author of confusion!
1 Corinthians chapter 14:33 states clearly: “For Yahweh is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
When we create unnecessary complexity and disruption in something as fundamental as timekeeping, we move away from Yahweh’s order and toward chaos.
Yahweh’s Sovereignty Over Time
Throughout Scripture, we see that time is under Yahweh’s authority, not ours.
Psalm 31:15 declares: “My future is in Your hands. Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly.”
Job 14:5 says of man: “You have decided the length of our lives. You know how many months we will live, and we are not given a minute longer.”
Acts 1:7 records Yahshua the Messiah saying: “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.”
Time belongs to Yahweh. He determines it, He controls it, He has authority over it! When we presume to change time to suit our purposes, we’re overstepping our bounds as people and attempting to exercise authority that belongs to Yahweh, the Creator of humanity alone.
But It’s Just One Hour…
I know some of you are thinking, “Come on, it’s just one hour twice a year. Aren’t you making a big deal out of nothing?”
Here’s the thing: it’s not about the hour itself. It’s about the principle. It’s about what it represents. It’s about the attitude that says human convenience and human efficiency matter more than divine order.
Yahshua the Messiah spoke about faithfulness in small things. Luke 16:10 says: “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”
If we can’t respect Yahweh’s authority over something as simple as timekeeping, how will we respect His authority in larger matters? If we can rationalize changing time because it’s convenient, what else will we rationalize?
The issue isn’t the magnitude of the change—it’s the spirit behind it. It’s the assumption that we have the right to modify what Yahweh has established!
A Call to Awareness
I’m not naive enough to think that this podcast is going to end Daylight Saving Time. I’m not telling you to refuse to change your clocks and show up to work an hour off from everyone else—that’s just going to cause problems in your life.
But I am calling you to be aware. To recognize that this practice we’ve normalized is actually abnormal from a biblical perspective. To understand that when we participate in changing time, we’re participating in something that fundamentally contradicts Yahweh’s design!
And maybe, just maybe, this awareness will make you more sensitive to other areas where we’ve accepted man-made alterations to Yahweh’s order. Maybe it will make you more willing to question traditions and practices that seem normal but don’t align with the Bible!
Psalm 90:12 says: “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
Yahweh wants us to understand time rightly—to see it as His gift, to use it wisely, to recognize that our days are numbered by Him. When we manipulate time, we lose some of that sacred perspective!
An Act of Rebellion
Let me be direct as we close: Daylight Saving Time is not a neutral practice. It’s not just a harmless quirk of modern society. It represents humanity’s desire to control what Yahweh, our Father and Elohim in heaven, has established. It embodies our pride, our arrogance, our unwillingness to submit to divine order!
This man-made change in time is unrighteous. It is an abomination to Yahweh Almighty in heaven. It may seem like a small thing to us, but it reflects a much larger problem—the problem of human beings who think they can improve on Elohim’s perfect design!
Yahweh created time. He set the sun and moon in their courses. He established day and night, seasons and years. And He called it good. Who are we, the people, to say we can do better?
So the next time you change your clocks, I want you to pause for a moment. Think about what you’re doing. Recognize it for what it is: a symbolic act of human pride, a small but significant example of humanity’s ongoing rebellion against the Creator’s order!
And then ask yourself: in what other areas of life have I accepted man-made changes to Yahweh’s design? Where else have I allowed convenience and tradition to override biblical truth?
These are the questions we need to be asking ourselves if we want to walk in true obedience to the Almighty in heaven!
Thanks for listening today, folks. May Almighty Yahweh give us the wisdom to recognize His order and the humility to submit to it—even in something as seemingly simple as time.
