The Ultimate Reality of Hide and Seek is Coming

Hello everyone. Welcome back to Spiritual Podcast, your podcast for authentic Bible teachings that are completely 100 percent free. I’m Elder Dan, your host. Grab a coffee, pull up a chair, and lend me your ears for a short time for this eye-opening episode.

Have you ever had that split-second feeling where you did something so embarrassing—or so wrong—that you literally wished the ground would just open up and swallow you whole? We’ve all been there. But today, I want to talk about a moment in human history described in the Bible that takes that “I wish I could disappear” feeling and cranks it up to a level that is honestly hard to wrap our heads around.

We’re talking about the moment when the world’s most powerful people—the billionaires, the influencers, the kings, and the generals—decide that a dark, damp hole in the ground is a better option than facing the truth.

The Great Leveler: From High Society to Low Ground

There’s a fascinating, albeit terrifying, thread that runs through the New Testament. It shows up first in Luke 23:30 and then hits a crescendo in Revelation 6:16-17.

In Luke, Yahshua the Messiah is carrying the stake, and he stops to tell the weeping crowd that a time is coming when people will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” Fast forward to the vision in Revelation, and we see that exact scene playing out.

The imagery is vivid. We aren’t just talking about a few panicked citizens. The text specifically calls out:

  • Kings of the earth
  • The great ones and the generals
  • The rich and the powerful
  • Every slave and every free person

Yes, every one living on planet Earth! That will be a very humbling and deeply sobering end of the age time for everyone; yes, all of humanity!

Think about that for a second. These are people who, twenty-four hours prior, likely had private security, massive bank accounts, and the world at their fingertips. But when the sky rolls back, none of that matters! The “Judgment of Yahweh” becomes the ultimate equalizer. Wealth can’t buy a way out, and power can’t negotiate a truce.

The Desperate Desire to Disappear

The most striking part of this passage isn’t just that they are hiding; it’s what they are hiding from. They aren’t just afraid of a cosmic disaster or a falling star. Revelation says they are crying out to the rocks, saying:

Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?

Let’s unpack that phrase: “The wrath of the Lamb.” Wait a minute! What? It’s impossible, correct? Lambs aren’t supposed to be scary. We associate Yahshua, the Lamb of Yahweh, with gentleness, sacrifice, and peace. But that’s exactly why this judgment is so intense. This isn’t the “wrath” of a temperamental tyrant. This is the righteous, settled opposition of Love itself toward everything that has destroyed, corrupted, and hurt His creation.

When these so-called leaders and “great ones” see the purity and the absolute presence of Yahweh through Savior Yahshua, the psychological weight is so heavy that suffocating under a mountain feels safer than standing in His light and path.

To really understand why the “cave” imagery hit so hard for the original audience, we have to step out of our modern world of steel skyscrapers and look at the rugged, limestone-pitted landscape of first-century Judea and the Roman Empire.

When Messiah Yahshua and the Apostle John spoke these words, they weren’t just using creative metaphors; they were tapping into a very real, very terrifying historical reality.

Why the Caves?

You might wonder, “Why a cave?” In a world full of high-tech bunkers and deep-sea enclosures, the instinct remains primal. Since the beginning of time, humans have used caves to hide from the elements and from enemies. But there’s a deep irony here. The very people who spent their lives trying to be “seen”—seeking fame, building monuments to themselves, and accumulating “likes”—are now begging to be buried alive.

Yes, it’s the ultimate “hide and seek,” except no human being is winning. They are trying to escape the intense presence of Yahweh, but the Bible tells us there is nowhere his presence doesn’t reach. Yes, no one gets away from Yahshua’s wrath! The “desperate desire to escape” isn’t just about the physical danger; it’s about the soul-crushing realization that the life they built on sand is finally collapsing and they’re meeting the rock, Yahshua!

Why the “Lamb” is the Centerpiece

The most important historical context is the identity of the Lamb. In the Roman Empire, the symbol of power was the Eagle (the Aquila). It was predatory, fierce, and soared above everyone.

By contrast, Apostle John presents a “Lamb that was slain.” To the Romans, a lamb was a victim, a sacrifice, something weak. That’s what they thought, and they were so wrong, just like the modern world mockers are! The historical “twist” is that the Lamb, Yahshua, is the one with the final authority to judge whether a human will live or not in the future! Many did not see that happening. The powerful aren’t running from a bigger, meaner Roman-style dictator; they are running because they finally see the absolute authority and fearsome power of Yahshua the Messiah, the Master of masters and the King of kings of Almighty Yahweh’s coming Kingdom on Earth—yes, the one they mocked, marginalized, whipped, and crucified.

Bringing It Home: Why This Matters Today

I know, this sounds heavy. It is heavy. But the reason these warnings exist in the Bible isn’t to scare us into a corner; it’s to invite us into the light now so we don’t have to hide later.

The beauty of the Holy Gospel—the “Good News of the Bible”—is that the same Yahshua who is described as the Judge is currently standing as the Advocate. We don’t have to wait for the mountains to fall on us to deal with our guilt or our fear.

  • Connection over concealment: Many people spend so much energy today “hiding” behind filters, curated lives, and masks.
  • The invitation: Yahweh’s “wrath” is his “No” to the evil that hurts us. His “Yes” is found in the grace He offers before that final day ever arrives.

Almighty Yahweh is inviting us all to join and become part of His righteous family today, now, so do not wait until it’s already too late!

Whether you’re a “leader” in your field or just trying to get through the week, the message is the same: You don’t have to look for a cave. There is a “Rock of Ages” that was cleft for you, not to crush you, but to protect you.

It’s about the “Who,” not just the “When”

Looking at the history, it’s clear: this isn’t just a scene of a disaster movie. It’s a scene of ultimate accountability. The “caves” represent the final attempt of the human ego to remain private and independent from Almighty Yahweh. Just remember, “There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)

What do you think?

It’s a wild thought, right? The idea of the world’s elite trading their mansions for literal dirt holes. It reminds us that at the end of the day, our status in society doesn’t define us—our relationship with the Almighty Creator and Father in heaven, Yahweh, does, as well as His Begotten Son, Yahshua, our Messiah!

Brethren, before I go, let me pray this prayer for you: May Yahweh bless you and keep you; may Yahweh make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may Yahweh lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. I humbly pray all these things to Yahweh through Yahshua the Messiah, our Master and coming King, amen. Kindly keep praying for the shalom of Israel. Take care. Halleluyah!
