Wars, Rumors of Wars, and the Beginning of Sorrows

Hello. Welcome back to Spiritual Podcast, your podcast for authentic Bible teachings where we explore the intersection of ancient scripture and the modern world. I’m Elder Dan, your host. Grab your coffee, pull up a chair, and let’s dive in. Today, we’re talking about something that’s been on a lot of minds lately: conflict. It seems like everywhere we look, there’s news of another war, another crisis, another heartbreaking headline.

It’s inescapable, isn’t it? You can’t even open a news app without feeling a sense of heaviness. And for those of us who read the Bible, it’s hard not to connect these events to some of the specific prophecies we’ve studied.

It brings to mind those passages in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 where Yahshua the Messiah talks about the signs of the end times.

Let’s look at Matthew 24:6 for a moment. Yahshua says: “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” Mark and Luke echo this same sentiment. They warn us of nation rising against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

“Wars and rumors of wars.” That phrase feels so… present right now. We’re not just reading about history; we feel like we’re living it.

Think about it. The Middle East is a powder keg. We see the complexities and conflicts involving countries like Israel and Iran, with implications for the United States and the broader global community. The headlines are full of tensions, skirmishes, and the constant, simmering threat of escalation. And then, there’s the prolonged, devastating war between Russia and Ukraine. It’s a conflict that has reshaped geopolitics and caused immense suffering, with no clear end in sight.

And it’s not just the conflicts themselves; it’s the “rumors of wars” part too. The constant specter of cyberattacks, the threats, the instability… it creates this pervasive sense of anxiety. We are constantly hearing whispers of potential conflicts, alliances shifting, and new dangers on the horizon.

But here’s the crucial point Yahshua makes in these passages: “See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.”

Yes, “The end is not yet.” That’s a powerful statement. It’s easy to get swept up in the narrative that the world is about to end tomorrow, especially when things look so grim.

Yahshua goes on to say in Matthew 24:8 that these events are just the “beginning of sorrows.” The Greek word used there for “sorrows” often refers to birth pangs. It’s an analogy about increasing intensity and frequency before a major event – in this case, the second coming of Messiah Yahshua.

So, these wars we’re seeing, the instability, the fear… they are signs. They are markers on a timeline. But they aren’t the final curtain call.

So, what’s the take-away for us? If we are in the “beginning of sorrows,” what does that mean for how we live our lives?

Be sober. Be vigilant. These are active commands. This isn’t a call to panic, but to a state of heightened awareness. Think about a sentry on guard duty. They are alert, observing, and ready to respond. That should be our posture.

And it’s not just about watching the headlines. It’s about our spiritual health. We cannot afford to be spiritually malnourished. Just as our bodies need food, our spirits need Almighty Yahweh’s words.

The Bible isn’t just a book of ancient history; it is a source of strength, comfort, and guidance. It’s our anchor in the storm. When the world is swirling with chaos, we need to be deeply rooted in scripture. We need to be nourishing our souls with the truths found in Yahweh’s Word.

Think of it like pre-fueling for a long journey. If we know we’re heading into a difficult season, we don’t wait until we’re exhausted to start taking care of ourselves. We build up our stamina beforehand.

The world will continue to see conflict. Wars and rumors of wars are, unfortunately, a reality of our broken world. But we can have a peace that passes all understanding because we know the bigger picture. We are not just helpless observers. We have a hope that is anchored in Messiah.

And the final reminder in Matthew 24:42-44 is perhaps the most critical: “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Master is coming… Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man (Yahshua) is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Like a thief in the night. Yes, that’s the image our Savior, Master, and King Yahshua uses. It’s a reminder that we won’t have weeks or months to get ready when He returns. The time to be ready is now. Today.

So, let’s not let the chaos of the world fill us with fear. Let it motivate us. Let it propel us to seek our Elohim in heaven more deeply, to be diligent in prayer, to consume His Word, and to live lives that reflect our faith.

Don’t be troubled by the wars and rumors of wars, but let them serve as a stark reminder. These are the beginning of sorrows, but the end is not yet. Let’s make sure we are sober, vigilant, spiritually nourished, and ready for Yahshua’s return, whenever that day may come.
