Trust Yahweh, Not Politics, in Elections

Faith and the ballot: Navigating Elections Biblically

Brothers and sisters,

Election seasons have a way of stirring us up. News cycles run hot, conversations grow sharp, and it’s easy to feel the weight of it all. We’ve felt it too. Yet when we open Yahweh’s Word, He pulls our eyes higher than any ballot or headline.

Proverbs 11:14 reminds us, “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” We need wisdom. We need people around us who help us think clearly and speak carefully. Let’s seek counsel from Scripture first, then from mature believers who love Yahshua more than any party or candidate.

Paul tells Timothy—and us—to pray. First of all, he says, “I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, holy and dignified in every way” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). So we pray. We pray for those in office now and for those who may take office soon. We ask Yahweh to grant them wisdom, integrity, and a heart that fears Him. A peaceful and quiet life is a gift we should not take for granted.

Psalm 20:7 cuts straight to the heart of the matter: “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of Yahweh our Elohim.” Chariots and horses were the military and political power of David’s day. Ours look different—campaigns, platforms, polling numbers—but the temptation stays the same. We will not put our ultimate confidence in any human system. Our trust belongs to Yahweh.

At the same time, Romans 13:1 calls us to honor the authorities Yahweh has established: “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from Yahweh, and those that exist have been instituted by Yahweh.” Submission does not mean we stop speaking truth or working for justice. It does mean we refuse bitterness, mockery, and rebellion. We respect the office even when we disagree with the person holding it.

And here is the greatest reality of all: “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Master Yahshua Messiah” (Philippians 3:20). No election can change that. No outcome can revoke it. We belong to a kingdom that cannot be shaken. That truth frees us to engage the process with clear heads and calm hearts. We vote, we speak, we serve our neighbors—and we keep our eyes fixed on the One who reigns forever.

So this week and in the days ahead, let’s do the simple, powerful things Scripture calls us to do. Seek wise counsel. Pray for those in authority. Refuse to trust in human strength. Honor the governing structures Yahweh allows. And remember where our true citizenship lies.

Yes, Almighty Yahweh is still on His throne. That’s enough.

Grace and peace to you all,
